Fencing is as old as the habbit of humans fighting each other
The old style swords have developed into three different sport weapons.
Epee - A thrust weapon. Hits are valid all over the body and the simple idea is to hit first. It has a bigger bell guard to give the fencer more protection. Both fencers can get points if they hit simultaneously. There are hits or no hits.
Foil - A thrust weapon. Hits are valid only on the trunk and the fencer has to prepare the thrust according to conventions to have it valid. The foil has a smaller bell guard. Only one fencer can get each hit. There are hits, non valid hits or no hits.
Sabre - A thrust and cut weapon. Hits are valid over the "belt". The fencer has to prepare the thrust according to conventions. The sabre has a guard covering the whole hand. Only one fencer can be awarded a hit. There are hits, non valid hits or no hits.

Welcome to the team championship for veterans in Kalmar!
The Swedish Fencing Association is an active partner in the Swedish Sports Confederation. There are more than 20,000 sports clubs in Sweden. The Swedish Fencing Association organizes 50 of these clubs.
Two out of three Swedish boys and every other Swedish girl, 7-15 years of age, are active on the several Swedish sports clubs.
Sport adds pleasure and joy in life for both athletes and spectators. It contributes to social cohesion and better health. Wit sports both young and old have the opportunity to realize their dreams and ambitions, alone and together with others.
The importance of sport is especially apparent in competition for veterans. Old, good friends, who got to know each other in their youth, keep their friendship all through life. The team members encourage one another. A major victory is everyone´s victory. And friends are found also among the opposing teams.
Maybe the body doesn´t respond as fast any more. Maybe the precision is not as godd as was once upon a time. But the joy and the fellowship only increase with age. That is how sport create a lifelong intersest and lifelong, worldwide friendship.
The team championship for veterans 2012 is organized by the Kalmar Fencing Club, one of the most active fencing clubs in Sweden.
I wish you all welcome to Sweden and to Kalmar

President of the Swedish Fencing Federation

Welcome to Kalmar
This part of Sweden is one of the most popular tourist destination. With its outdoor cafés, lively marina and proximity to the castle, Kalmar city centre is something unique. The strategically location of the city between the Kingdom of glass and offshore Öland makes Kalmar an ideal place to live and visit. The area enjoys more hours of sunshine than practically anywhere else in Sweden.
Kalmar today is a modern town with 63.000 inhabitants, but the history is very much alive in the city-centre and in our minds.
Once again hearty welcome to Kalmar. Hope you will have nice days here and Good luck!!
